Weymouth And The Area Around Wey Meadow

Weymouth is a seaside town on the coast of Dorset with a wide beach running along the main esplanade. The town attracts visitors looking for many different types of holiday including family beach holidays with it’s Sealife Centre, Punch and Judy shows, donkey rides and the traditional harbour which offers a wide range of restaurants and pubs. The harbour also perfect for al fresco fish & chips or one of the fishing/boating trips, this was very recently the film set of the recently filmed movie Dunkirk

Just across the Chesil Beach causeway is the Isle of Portland and Portland Harbour, a world class sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing venue. Portland is famous for Portland Stone and former quarries on Portland have been converted in to natural areas such as the sculpture park and butterfly sanctuaries, wall lizards can also be seen at some of these former quarries.

Weymouth at is the end of the main trainline from London Waterloo passing through Wool which is close to Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World known from the TV series based on it’s rescued primates. The line also runs to Poole and Bournemouth. If you prefer the age of steam The Swanage Steam Railway runs from Corfe Castle to Swanage which is typically English seaside Town and beach.

The train line also passes through the vibrant market town of Dorchester with a choice of excellent museums and attractions including the dinosaur museum, the teddy bear museum, the Tutankhamun exhibition and the Dorset County Museum Thomas Hardy sites of interest.
